Many people have often dreamt about working their own hours, earning far more than a standard hourly rate and being the inspiration that will change someone’s life for the better. But exactly what does it take, and do you have it ‘in you’ to be successful too?

It is widely well known that there are generally 3 key traits that turn any person into a successful business owner:

  1. Vision
  2. Consistency
  3. Determination

Everyone has elements of these three traits in their personality, but when you mix them with true passion for an industry, product or service; then each of these features can be elevated to superstar status. It’s what makes our sporting athletes so incredible and our iconic business leaders so inspiring.

Vision & your WHY – allows you a filter to make better choices.

As a business owner, you need to have a true vision of how your business will look and feel.

  • Who are your ideal clients, what products and services will you offer?
  • What are your personal, professional and financial goals?
  • Why did you become a health coach?

Knowing your ‘WHY’ is crucial for any small business. A great video to watch which explains this is Simon Sinek’s TEDx Talk where he discusses how you can know your purpose, cause and beliefs that inspires you which will allow you to establish real goals to aim towards.

Take time to write down all your goals.

  • What income do you want?
  • How many clients will you see in a week?
  • How often will you write blog posts and articles
  • How often will you attend speaking events to boost your community and cement your position as an expert Health & Wellness Coach?

Put pen to paper and outline exactly how you envision your future business. Then surround yourself with like-minded people, mentors and experts to map how you put those plans in motion.

Consistency – often the difference between failure and success.

Being constantly ‘consistent’ in your business activities creates a level of accountability, allows you to measure your results and helps to establish your professional reputation.

Being consistent means continually ‘showing up’ in your business, both literally in the form of hard work (seeing clients, admin and paperwork, running seminars etc), but also figuratively speaking by proving you message is not only consistent, but reliable and authentic.

Working towards your business vision in a consistent manner serves to provide leadership to not only your clients, but also provides a predictable flow of information to your community that is important for your small business marketing message.

Being consistent also means staying focussed, staying true to your message and staying the course when you are being pulled in a million different directions. Many business owners are also parents, running households and busy lives so it is important to try and keep a little work/life balance too.

Determination – your ambition, mixed with energy and persistence will ensure success.

Determination is a driving factor for any small business owner. Often working alone, you will need a high level of grit and perseverance to push through any challenges and search for the opportunities.

You might have great passion for the health and wellness industry, but it will be the drive and determination that ensures you will profit from that passion. Anyone can have a great business idea, it is the willingness to ACT on that idea that will set them apart. It is the determined individual that won’t quit or throw in the towel on their goals and ambitions.

A successful business owner will always be focussed on marketing their business, inviting people to work with them, and providing content that is both interesting and relevant to their community.

As Oprah once famously said ‘follow your passion; it will lead to your purpose’.

This is true for many successful Health and Wellness Mentors who courageously dared to dream of changing people’s lives for the better. They are living, breathing and sharing their passion of great health with the world. When you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed to make it great. Your clients and community will resonate with your authentic message and this will organically grow into a successful business. Dare to dream, allow your passion to become your purpose, and who knows, one day it might just become your profession!
